context-mode Hits GitHub Trending: Tool Output, Sandboxed First
context-mode reached GitHub's daily trending chart on October 11. It is an MCP server: the raw output of tool calls is executed and processed in a sandbox first, and only the conclusion enters the model's context window.

What happened
context-mode (mksglu/context-mode) appeared on GitHub's daily trending chart on October 11. Checked on the repo page before publication: 26,619 stars and 1,916 forks; the project was created in February 2026 and has shipped 195 releases.
The problem it targets is tool output filling the context window: one browser snapshot is about 56KB and 20 GitHub issues about 59KB, and raw data going straight into context can consume roughly 40% of the window in half an hour. context-mode has the agent write analysis as a script that runs in a sandbox and returns only what it prints; the project's example turns 315KB of raw data into a 5.4KB return, a self-reported 98% reduction.
Session continuity is the other part: file edits, git operations, tasks, errors and user decisions are recorded in SQLite with an FTS5 index. After a session is compacted, the model retrieves relevant events via BM25 search instead of reloading the full history into context. The project connects to 17 clients through MCP and hooks, including Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI and VS Code Copilot.
Key facts
- Numbers: : 26,619 stars and 1,916 forks (checked October 11, 2026); repo created in February 2026.

- Integration: : 11 MCP tools and 17 supported clients, including Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and Gemini CLI.
- License: : Elastic License 2.0.
