GPT-6 Review: Intelligent UI Reaches ChatGPT, Search Answers Start 44% Sooner
Starting October 7, OpenAI pushed GPT-6 and Intelligent UI to every ChatGPT user: GPT-6 Sol for Plus and above, GPT-6 Luna for Free and Go. Answers are no longer walls of text — the model picks charts, forms, maps and other components based on the question.

HIMIAO Horizon score
The interface change outweighs the model change: the interactive components are a real upgrade, while the speed figure comes from OpenAI and awaits independent verification.
Pros
44% sooner start on web-search answers (OpenAI internal data)
Natively rendered interactive components that appear as they generate
Free tier included in the rollout
Cons
The 44% figure is vendor-internal data with no independent verification
Pro reasoning tier, Work and Codex do not support Intelligent UI
Older desktop apps not yet supported
Best for
Users of ChatGPT on the web who need charts, forms and calculators
01What happened
On October 7, 2026, OpenAI published “GPT-6 and Intelligent UI for everyone” and began the rollout in ChatGPT's Chat tab: Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise first, Free and Go following on October 8. Model assignment: paid tiers get GPT-6 Sol, Free and Go get GPT-6 Luna; Pro's reasoning tier stays on GPT-6 Astra with no Intelligent UI. The models behind Work and Codex did not change. Intelligent UI turns answers into native components — buttons, forms, charts, checklists, maps — chosen by the model based on the question, with plain text kept; a streaming compiler renders components piece by piece as they generate.
02Testing and results
The basis is OpenAI's official internal data (vendor-published, not independent testing): GPT-6 Instant starts answering web-search questions 44% sooner on average than GPT-5.6 Instant. Note the figure measures when the answer starts appearing, not when the full answer finishes. OpenAI says GPT-6 can begin answering while it continues thinking or using tools, then add findings. Third-party compiled data: Artificial Analysis figures as of October 13, 2026 show GPT-6 Astra leading OpenAI's lineup. For context: Claude has shown custom visual components in chat by default since March 2026; Google's Gemini app has offered visual layout as Labs experiments since November 2025.
03Key facts
- Scope: Intelligent UI is available in the Chat tab only; Work, Codex and Voice are unaffected.
- Opt-down: On the web, Personalization → Layout and Visuals → Simple reduces visual elements; plain-text answers can also be requested.
- Admin: No separate admin toggle; disabling GPT-6 Sol access controls it indirectly.
- Reach: OpenAI says the new model serves 1.2 billion weekly ChatGPT users.
Why it matters
the default interaction for ChatGPT's 1.2 billion weekly users (OpenAI's figure) moves from plain text to model-chosen interactive components — a platform-level change for the chatbot interface.
