Replit Switches to OpenAI: ChatGPT Replaces Claude as Default Model
Replit's co-founder and CEO announced onstage at TechCrunch Disrupt: ChatGPT replaces Claude as the default model for Replit Agent. Replit had been one of Anthropic's top-five customers.

What happened
On October 15, Replit co-founder and CEO Amjad Masad announced onstage at TechCrunch Disrupt that Replit no longer counts Anthropic as its preferred model partner, and that OpenAI's ChatGPT is now the default model for Replit Agent. Replit announced its OpenAI partnership in August, but had never disclosed any change in its Anthropic relationship before.
I think ChatGPT is better now.
— Amjad Masad, Replit co-founder and CEO (TechCrunch Disrupt, Oct 15)
Masad said the decision rested on cost, partnership, and performance: the company evaluates with an internal benchmark and a publicly published one, where Sol and Astra perform better at building vibe-coded applications from scratch. Over the weekend he clarified further: the platform remains model-agnostic and users can still choose Claude and other models — OpenAI is simply now the default provider. One person familiar with the matter said the partnership remains in place.
Masad also shared growth figures onstage: enterprise contracts rose from about 2% of revenue last year to about 15% this year, with B2B revenue now over 50%; he expects enterprise and government customers to contribute more than half of revenue in 2027.
