Google Rolls Out Gemini for Government Services: Agent Platform for Federal and State Agencies, Now in Preview

Google unveiled Gemini for government services at the Google Public Sector Summit in Washington on October 20, bringing the Gemini agent to public service: starting today it is in preview for U.S. federal, state and local government agencies. Following the legal and financial-services editions, it is the third purpose-built industry agent suite on the Gemini platform.

What happened

According to an October 20 post on the Google Cloud blog signed by CEO Thomas Kurian, the new service has five components: skills for government work, secure connectors to agency systems, partner agents, a governed control plane, and an open partner ecosystem. The State of Missouri and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services have been piloting the service over the past few weeks.

Tim Marczewski, Director of AI and Innovation at the Missouri Office of Administration, said in the announcement: “Our citizens expect the government to move at the speed of modern life, not the speed of paperwork. By automating routine work in our workflows, we’re delivering faster, better services to Missourians.”

Key facts

  1. Launch:unveiled on Oct 20 at Google Public Sector Summit ’26 in Washington for U.S. federal, state and local agencies; in preview starting today.
  2. Skills:government-work skills covering policy research (citing the CFR, the Federal Register and the eCFR down to the paragraph), FOIA discovery, batch redaction, vendor bid evaluation, grant audits under 2 CFR 200, intake document validation and plain-language notices.
  3. Connectors:direct links to the Federal Register, regulations.gov and the eCFR, plus Oracle E-Business Suite/PeopleSoft, Salesforce, ServiceNow, Google Workspace and Microsoft 365/SharePoint; no data migration, existing agency permissions apply.
  4. Partner agents:SZNS Solutions’ FOIA discovery and redaction agents; Accenture Federal Services, Deloitte, SAIC, Slalom and others joined as system integrators.
  5. Compliance:deployable under Assured Workloads FedRAMP High with U.S. data residency; agency data is never used to train Google’s foundation models without permission.
  6. Pilots:the State of Missouri and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services have been testing the service for several weeks.

Why it matters

Google’s third industry agent suite after legal and financial services ports the skills-plus-connectors-plus-governance playbook to the public sector; Missouri and HHS are already piloting it, and the federal procurement channel opens alongside it.
